Endoscopy For Pets

Endoscopy for Pets

We’re excited to share that Absecon Veterinary Hospital now is offering an endoscopy for pets, using our new diagnostic tool: an endoscope. An endoscope allows our veterinary team to perform an endoscopy, a minimally invasive procedure that helps us look inside a pet’s body without the need for more invasive exploratory surgery.

What Is an Endoscopy?

Endoscopy is a procedure performed under general anesthesia using a long, flexible or rigid tube with a tiny camera and light at the tip. This tool gives our veterinarians a real-time view of areas inside your pet’s body. Depending on your pet’s size and the area being examined, the endoscope may be inserted through natural openings such as the mouth, nose, ears, or rectum. The live video feed allows us to see what is happening internally with a much closer and more detailed view.

What Can An Endoscopy for Pets Help Diagnose?

Endoscopy can be helpful when a pet is experiencing symptoms that are difficult to explain through a physical exam or routine diagnostics alone. This tool allows us to identify abnormalities with greater accuracy, including:

  • Inflammation
  • Foreign objects
  • Ulcers
  • Tumors
  • Tissue changes
  • Other internal abnormalities

Endoscopy can also be used to collect biopsies and, in some cases, remove foreign material from areas such as the stomach, ears, or nose.

When Should You Ask About Endoscopy?

If your pet has chronic or recurring symptoms that cannot be fully explained with an exam, blood work, X-rays, or ultrasound, endoscopy may be an important next step in reaching a diagnosis.

his can be especially helpful for pets with ongoing digestive issues, unexplained discomfort, chronic nasal concerns, ear problems, or other symptoms that require a closer look.
